The story of
Ty Marcellus
Ty Marcellus was born in January 16th, 1995, and grew up in a small town in southern Minnesota with a passion for the arts. As soon as he could read, Ty began reading Marvel Comics and by kindergarten, Ty was reading at a high school level and began reading the Harry Potter series. At a young age, Ty taught himself how to play the drums, igniting a passion for music. As he grew, Ty made more books and comics which were all just for fun, as he leaned more toward the musical route. Ty continued to teach himself instruments going from drums, to piano, then guitar and bass, then ukulele, and even viola. Ty started a band in high school, which then dissipated after a year and a half. The lead singer would go on to become a short-lived acoustic singer songwriter by the name of Daniel Mark, and Ty took up his own solo career as a rapper called “Prate”. Ty began to manage this artist/best friend of his which allowed Ty to break into the music industry. From there, prior to attending college, Ty began a recording studio with a business partner, booked many a show for himself and Daniel Mark, recorded 2 albums, and added more artists to his roster of management, making 5 in total, one of which he helped get the opportunity to sing backup for Alicia Keys for a one-time show.
Entering into college at Minnesota State University Mankato, Ty left making comics behind, but continued to read them, opting to major in music industry and explore his passions further. While in college, Ty continued to manage artists as well as recording music. By the time he was in the second half of his freshman year, Ty became the head booking agent for the college, as well as an assistant show promoter for ENG Entertainment and Rhymesayers. Through these positions, Ty began to book and oversee shows for acts such as Juicy J, Mike Posner, Hoodie Allen, Nelly, Old Crow Medicine Show, Charlie Daniels Band, T-Pain, Future, and many more acts. Also, while in college, Ty began a student run record label for music industry student to take on the acts of other students and help promote them, book their shows, and record their music using the college’s own music studio.
It was in 2016 when Tyler was asked to score a piece of film for a college course about scoring films. As he thought about this project on his way home, Ty listened to a multitude of songs and began to envision what could be happening on a screen to the song being heard. It was the song “Firefly” by Breaking Benjamin which gave Ty the thought of the first hero in what would become a massive universe of heroes and villains. The song inspired the hero of the same name “Firefly”, and from there, Ty began to build a universe, even using characters made when he was a child, revamping them with a better story only his older self could think of.
Ty built the universe up with distinct characters, separated into well thought out stories, which lay within phases of overarching story telling from street level heroes to massive world altering battles combining it all. He created this universe like nothing anyone has ever seen before with a focus on extreme diversity in its characters to represent those underrepresented in main stream comics. Ty also described his universe as being “a cross between Marvel, with its brilliant heroes and villains and story structure, and Game of Thrones, with characters being killed off to mostly stay dead unless a good story can be formed to bring them back.”
As of 2019, Ty had made 1,000+ character in this universe, and has already begun outlining two separate, yet connected universes. With the outlines made in the main universe alone, Ty has stories set for the next 40+ year’s worth of comic stories, and hopes he can show readers what’s in store down the line for these characters.
Ty continues to write these stories and build universes and hopes you, the reader, find his stories and characters just as, if not more so enjoyable as he did making them.

A Whole Nu World
An Essay on Nu World Comics
In the 1930’s Malcolm Wheeler-Nicholson started a comic book company called “National Allied Publication”. This publishing company began to put out a series of books called “Detective Comics” which eventually gave way to the very first appearance of Batman. Detective Comics eventually changed their name to DC and became DC comics. DC now is a multimillion-dollar company between their comic sales, having some of the most legendary comic book characters of all time, and their other licensing media such as movies, tv shows, and video games. The DC logo is most commonly seen as blue, alternating from their rival’s logo.
Later in the 30’s, into the 1940’s, another publishing company began, founded by Stanley Lieber (Stan Lee), which was known as “Timely Comics”. This small company was right down the hall from DC in their New York City skyscraper. Eventually, this company became known as “Marvel”. Just like DC, Marvel is now a multimillion-dollar company, still producing comics, tv shows, video games, and being the number one movie studio in the world in terms of revenue, popularity, and staff. Marvel’s logo is most commonly seen as being red.
Now, in 2016, another major comic book company has started. Begun by Ty Marcellus, Nu World Comics was created in the same vein as Marvel and DC, being a connected multiverse of characters, while being similar to the third largest comic book company, “Image Comics”, in the way of giving small independent artists a chance to show their skill. Nu World Comics chose to combine the fact that it is a Minnesota based company, where both the Vikings, the late singer Prince, and the Mankato college that Marcellus attended all wear the color purple with pride, and the logos of both Marvel and DC to make their logo purple.
Part 1: What Makes Nu World Comics Different?
So, why is Nu World comics different from Marvel and DC? Both companies, being products of their time, are just now adding diversity to their universe. But, the vast majority and most popular characters of both companies are predominantly white, or especially white males. Nu World Comics prides itself on being extremely diverse, pushing characters of different races, cultures, and sexualities to the forefront of their comics. This makes the number of diverse characters in the Nu World Comics universe much larger than that of the larger companies. Nu World Comics focuses on diversity and inclusion, promising that people of all walks of life can find themselves in the characters we make.
Another difference is that Nu World Comics is a closed storyline, with a definitive beginning and end. There is already enough content made so that the universe will outlive it’s 26-year-old (at the time of writing) creator, so even with the closed storyline, there will be 40+ years’ worth of content to go through. However, there are also contingencies in place so that if needed, the stories can change from a closed story line to a continuous story that matches how DC and Marvel have yet to end their story lines.
On the subject of storylines, Nu World Comics’ creator, Ty Marcellus, has created an outline for the universe. This outline allows him to make characters that aren’t even close to appearing yet in the stories, which is why there are already thousands of characters created. This also means that with an outline stretching many years from now, Nu World Comics will never reboot the characters, as DC is infamous for. Nu World Comics will not need to go through the tedious process of retconning their stories because of the set plan Marcellus has laid out. This allows for changes to be made in the outline before a book is produced. Marvel and DC both have had the disadvantage as making the stories up as they go along, causing them to write themselves into a corner, where they either have no more ideas, or the ideas they have do not work with the established lore or cannon that the books have.
Finally, Nu World Comics prides itself on its planned outline because we know when and which characters will die. This leads us to write gripping works where characters will die and stay dead. A common comic book cliché is that heroes never stay dead. So, Nu World Comics plans on killing both background and prominent characters, and rarely bringing them back, to create gripping stakes in the narratives.
Part 2: How Does It All Work?
In order for the Nu World Comics universe to work properly, there are some set rules in place. Since the universe is a mirrored image of the real-world universe we live in, there must be an explanation for everything in order to allow gods of different pantheons to co-exist. These rules also tie in with the overarching lore of the universe, which all allows for multiple religions and world views to be implemented in the comics. Through this, Marcellus has created a set lore to explain away all aspects of both the comic book universe, and our real world. Here, we will break down the lore into its individual pieces to explain why it all helps explain the universe.
In the beginning, there is one singular god, who is the one above all other gods, known as the Telsnae. A fun fact is that if you unscramble the name of this over arching god, it would spell Stan Lee, who is Marcellus’ personal hero. The Telsnae finds itself alone in the universe, and so one day it creates one massive planet that takes up most of the universe. However, it discovers there is something within the planet, consuming it from within. Enraged, the god destroys the planet in a massive explosion of power, thus resulting in what we know as the big bang. The power the god used can be found as remnants throughout the universe as the stars and space dust that make up the universe. The creature who was consuming the planet becomes known as “The Destroyer of Worlds” is banished to the far edge of space, eventually to return one day as a threat.
With a new universe full of stars and dust, the Telsnae decides to make smaller planets, and fills the universe with galaxies. The god then sends out its asexually reproduced children to oversee these galaxies and create life on them in whatever form they see fit. These beings become known as the “Galaxy Gods” and are the 2nd tier of powerful gods in the universe. Their creations lead to the thousands of different types of aliens that exist in this universe.
One of these galaxy gods, known as Kuk, comes to take over the Milky Way galaxy, or our own galaxy. Kuk sets to work creating brilliant life all around the galaxy, making humans on earth, and alien life on every other planet. Next to him, lives the galaxy goddess known as Andromeda. She wishes for her universe to be better than all others, so she sets out on trying to sabotage others. To do so, she lets Kuk fall in love with her, and always spends time with him in her galaxy making him neglect his own. While he is not looking, Andromeda moves the pieces in motion to start a galactic war, started by an alien race known as the Dracheki.
This massive galactic war destroys the majority of life on all other planets, thus explaining why scientists in this comic, and in our real-world, cannot find alien life on planets near us, but potential remnants of said life. When Kuk returns, he sees most of his life gone, and is devastated. Humans are one of those races who remain, and so the god visits them to ask what went on. The humans regale him in a tale of how the war began and ended, and tell how they stayed neutral during the conflict, which is why they were spared. For this decision to stay neutral, Kuk is pleased and grants the humans high intellect and new skills. This ushers in the Neolithic Revolution as it is known in our real-world.
Eventually, Kuk begins to grow fond of the Egyptians specifically for their amazing inventions and innovation. This leads him to grant the Egyptians more and more gifts, until making them the world’s first super powered beings. As these beings travel the world, they find places where they are worshipped, and through heroic deeds, are turned into gods themselves. This creates our 3rd tier of god, known as the earthly gods. It is here where one can find the gods and goddesses of world religions, explaining them as extremely powerful humans, who grew to popularity and worship.
Now, in our real world, one might notice that the stories of magical heroes and monsters and other fantastical stories seem to have ended around the medieval period. So, it is around this period where these Egyptian superheroes decide they no longer need Kuk in their lives. So, they betray him and encase him in a stone statue for thousands of years. In doing this, all who have not earned godhood begin to lose their powers, so they cast a final spell to allow a hero who can re-encase Kuk in stone to be born once every hundred years just in case the god is set free. When he is inevitably set free, not only does he have a new hatred for the betraying humans, but especially for powered humans, leading him to become a villain down the road.
This brings us to our modern day, where there have been no super powered beings on the planet since the medieval period, and aliens have all avoided landing on the planet because of their fear of Kuk. This explains where we are in our modern period, and even explains UFO’s we see in our sky, because the aliens only come to check on earth, but never land because of our having Kuk in custody.
Backing up a bit, the humans who are now the earthly gods can not only jump between universes, but create realms away from earth to avoid Kuk. This leads to the creation of heaven and hell, and the rules of death.
Now, when one dies, they can be saved from going to heaven or hell if they are near a character who can do one, or both, of two things. First, they need a character who can touch souls. These characters include demons, angels, magic users, gods, and a few other powerful beings. Those who can touch souls can grab the souls of a character and place it back into the character’s body before it can go to heaven or hell, or they can even hold the soul for a later time. However, even if the soul is back in the body, the body will still be suffering from whatever injury killed it. So, they will also need a character who can heal wounds, or a normal earthly doctor who can patch up the wound.
If one’s soul is not caught and they do go to an afterlife, the life they lived depends on who gets the message first, not where the soul goes. For instance, one who lived a perfectly neutral life can die, and heaven and hell will receive the message of their death at the exact same time. They then both send a demon or angel respectively, to bring the soul to their realm. If someone lived a mostly good life, heaven might get the signal long before hell does, allowing the angel to take the soul freely. If angels and demons see each other while out catching souls, they will fight each other for them, which is why who gets the message first is so important, to give a head start to either one.
If one goes to hell, they are forced to become a demon. If they go to heaven, they have the choice of being an angel, or a ghost. Angels and demons are not allowed out of their realms unless catching souls. Ghosts, however, can walk the earth, but never get the chance to go back to heaven once they choose. Ghosts choose to leave heaven because they have unfinished business on earth and return to ensure it is taken care of. Some ghosts then regret the decision once their business is finished, and find themselves stuck, which leads to angry ghosts haunting places. If a ghost dies a second time, since they no longer have souls to go to heaven or hell, they simply shut their eyes and spend eternity immobile and staring at the backs of their own eyelids. Since ghosts come to earth with powers that let them stay hidden from humans, this creates the hero who is the face of our comic books, the ghost Night Wraith. Most ghosts do not try to fight evil the way Night Wraith does, because they fear the threat of spending an eternity in darkness, which explains why ghosts in this universe are very prevalent, but not as heroes or villains. They try to stay out of things. For other heroes and villains, we are introduced to them in the first phase of stories, which explains why they get their powers, tying in with the overall lore.
Part 3: Where We Are Now
With the completed outline for the mainline universe, Nu World Comics is ready to begin releasing books, beginning Phase 1. So far, Nu World Comics has released the origin comic for Night Wraith as a hard copy on sites such as Itasca Books, Amazon, and Barnes and Noble, and a digital origin comic for the hero Firefly. As one can see above, there is so much more to go to make this a reality.
So far, Ty Marcellus has written all 20 completed comic scripts, with 17 of them waiting for art to be drawn for the book. Nu World Comics has hired two wonderful artists so far to create these books. The main artist, Nico Toran of England, is who made both released books (Night Wraith and Firefly), and is planning on working on future works, as Nu World Comics hopes to keep Nico on the team for the foreseeable future. Our other and newest artist, Joao Sa of Brazil, is also working on a book which should be completed soon. Nu World Comics has also worked with many wonderful artists who have done commissioned pieces or alternate comic covers for the company.
As of writing, Nu World Comics has also begun 3 universes that are separate from the mainline universe and bring entirely all-new characters to their stories. The plan is to have 3 trusted partners oversee these universes, to have them released while the mainline universe is running, allowing all universes to come to a close around the same time. Where Nu World Comics is a mirrored image of our real-world universe, there is also Next World, which features characters in a futuristic cyber-punk like universe where no one has powers, and all super abilities are achieved through technology, Old World, which is set in an ancient world where there is no technology and all stories and characters are based on ancient myths and legends, and Gold World, which is a fictional earth based in the golden age of comic books (20s-60s) featuring wacky costumes and speech, prohibition, communist fighting, and other things that happened throughout those periods. Gold World, however, does not follow rules the way Nu World does, allowing for Gold World to be all over the place with its stories and characters. So far, Phase 1 is completed for both Next World and Old World, and Gold World is in the early stages of production.
As one can see, there is no stopping Nu World Comics. With thousands of characters already made and thousands more to come, this universe is ever growing and always adding new characters. There’s so much more to say about this massive universe. The amount that is going on in the universe and things that are about to happen can sometimes overwhelm even the creator, Ty Marcellus. To see the many diverse characters, incredible lore, extensively researched plot lines and science, epic massive battles, and everything in between, you are encouraged to follow Nu World Comics on Instagram, Facebook, or Twitter, and begin a collection of their books! The universe has begun and starting now will help you keep with all the characters from the first to the last!
